The problem

What gets in the way today.

Community safety signage usually amounts to a phone number on a poster. It assumes the person can read it, has a phone, knows what to say and is willing to call.

At 1am outside the station, none of those assumptions hold for the person who most needs help.

The solution

How Omnie Vox changes it.

The Vox Post stands where people are most likely to need help and least likely to find it: transport interchanges, plazas, taxi ranks and night-time economy streets. Press the button, say what is happening, and be heard, in your own language, by an assistant that knows exactly where you are and what help is nearby.

Reports and sensitive requests are routed instantly to the right team through VOX NET with location attached, and live safety information can be pushed to every post during an incident. Councils, BIDs and safety partnerships see what is reported, where and when.

VOX POS

A visible, permanent point of help, exactly where people need it.

A community safety post from Omnie Vox is a permanent, mains-powered, weatherproof Vox Post installed where people are most likely to need help and least likely to find it: transport interchanges, plazas, taxi ranks and night-time economy streets. Press the button, say what is happening, and be heard, in your own language, by an assistant that knows exactly where you are and what help is nearby.

For safety partnerships, BIDs and councils specifying new reporting points, the post arrives finished. Reports and sensitive requests are routed instantly to the right team through Vox Net with location attached, and live safety information can be pushed to every post during an incident. No phone, no reading, no screen, and a calm, patient voice for people who would find a call hard.

In practice

A city safety partnership funds four reporting points for the night-time economy area. Vox Posts are specified for the station forecourt, the taxi rank and two busy junctions. At 1am a young woman who does not want to make a call presses the button, says quietly that someone is following her, and is told the taxi marshal is forty metres to her left while the night-time safety team is alerted. Earlier the same post answered a tourist in Spanish and took a report of a broken streetlight.

Compliance

Support for the standards and duties that shape accessible spaces.

Spoken, multilingual signage is a practical, documentable way to meet accessibility obligations, with Vox Net recording every interaction as evidence.

Legislation

Equality Act 2010

Requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments, in advance, so disabled people are not substantially disadvantaged. Voice-first signage is a documentable adjustment for visually impaired, dyslexic, neurodivergent and non-English-speaking visitors.

Standard

BS 8300:2018

The British Standard for accessible built environments asks for wayfinding information in more than one format, including audible. Spoken signage complements the tactile, Braille and high-contrast signs the standard already recommends.

Public sector

Public Sector Equality Duty

Section 149 of the Equality Act requires the NHS, universities, councils and transport authorities to actively advance equality and evidence it. Vox Net analytics give equality impact assessments and annual reports a measurable intervention to cite.

NHS

Accessible Information Standard

Mandatory for NHS and adult social care providers in England (DCB 1605), and monitored by the CQC. Requires information in formats people can understand, including audible and other-language formats. Omnie Vox meets this at scale, with an audit trail.

Building Regulations

Approved Document M

Part M of the Building Regulations requires reasonable provision for everyone to access and use a building, citing BS 8300 as its technical reference. Specifying Omnie Vox at design stage puts audible wayfinding in the inclusive-design package before sign-off.

Web

WCAG 2.2 AA & accessibility regulations

Vox App and the Vox Net control panel are keyboard operable, screen-reader friendly and high contrast, meeting the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 and ready for the European Accessibility Act.
