The problem

What gets in the way today.

City centre signage has to serve tourists, residents who do not read English, disabled and elderly citizens and anyone who is lost or worried. A map on a totem cannot answer a question, cannot update itself when a road is closed, and offers no obvious place to report a concern.

Temporary signs and posters are the usual fix, and they are out of date within days. What the street needs is a permanent, weatherproof point that can hold a conversation.

The solution

How Omnie Vox changes it.

The Vox Post is a slim column, permanently fixed into the ground and mains-powered, that answers in over 80 languages at the press of a button. Placed at transport interchanges, public plazas and the junctions between districts, it gives directions, live transport and event information, and a visible point to report concerns.

Every post is managed remotely in VOX NET, with AI Workflows pulling live bus and rail times, road closures, weather and what is on tonight. Councils and BIDs see every question by location, language and hour.

VOX POS

Pick the voice point that fits the street, position it, switch it on.

A city centre voice post from Omnie Vox is a finished product, not a signage project. The Vox Post arrives ready to fix and connect: a slim, mains-powered column that answers in over 80 languages, gives live transport and event information through AI Workflows in Vox Net, and offers a visible reporting point for community safety, 24/7.

For public realm schemes, interchange upgrades and new plazas, specify the Vox Post at the points where people make decisions. Voice-first, accessible and calm enough for anyone overwhelmed by a busy city, it serves every citizen and visitor from day one.

In practice

A capital project team is designing a new civic square with a bus interchange on one side. Three Vox Posts are specified at the interchange, the square and the junction to the shopping quarter. On opening day a family from Madrid ask, in Spanish, how to reach the cathedral; a resident with sight loss asks for the nearest accessible toilet; and by 1am the interchange post has taken its first safety report and alerted the night team.

Compliance

Support for the standards and duties that shape accessible spaces.

Spoken, multilingual signage is a practical, documentable way to meet accessibility obligations, with Vox Net recording every interaction as evidence.

Legislation

Equality Act 2010

Requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments, in advance, so disabled people are not substantially disadvantaged. Voice-first signage is a documentable adjustment for visually impaired, dyslexic, neurodivergent and non-English-speaking visitors.

Standard

BS 8300:2018

The British Standard for accessible built environments asks for wayfinding information in more than one format, including audible. Spoken signage complements the tactile, Braille and high-contrast signs the standard already recommends.

Public sector

Public Sector Equality Duty

Section 149 of the Equality Act requires the NHS, universities, councils and transport authorities to actively advance equality and evidence it. Vox Net analytics give equality impact assessments and annual reports a measurable intervention to cite.

NHS

Accessible Information Standard

Mandatory for NHS and adult social care providers in England (DCB 1605), and monitored by the CQC. Requires information in formats people can understand, including audible and other-language formats. Omnie Vox meets this at scale, with an audit trail.

Building Regulations

Approved Document M

Part M of the Building Regulations requires reasonable provision for everyone to access and use a building, citing BS 8300 as its technical reference. Specifying Omnie Vox at design stage puts audible wayfinding in the inclusive-design package before sign-off.

Web

WCAG 2.2 AA & accessibility regulations

Vox App and the Vox Net control panel are keyboard operable, screen-reader friendly and high contrast, meeting the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 and ready for the European Accessibility Act.

FAQ

City Centres: common questions

What does a Vox Post need on site?

A mains supply and a fixed base. Connectivity is Wi-Fi or cellular. Installation is a small civils job and the post is configured remotely before it is switched on.

How does it differ from retrofitting our existing totems?

Vox Kit fits inside signage you already own; the Vox Post is a complete voice point for locations that have no suitable sign, or where a new scheme is being built. Many cities use both.

Can it be a community safety reporting point?

Yes. Reports are routed instantly to the team you specify with location attached, and sensitive issues are signposted discreetly to the right service.
